Frequently Asked Questions
- What kind of service do you offer?
- We are a Men's Residential treatment program addressing alcoholism and drug addiction.
- Are you a 12-step program?
- Yes we are. During your treatment at J. Cole Recovery Homes, Inc. we will guide you through
the steps, help you acquire a sponsor, and monitor your progress making sure you are
working closely with your sponsor to maintain sobriety with steps 10, 11, and 12.
- Do you have transitional housing?
- We have a Sober Living Environment in a country style setting with all the comforts of home.
It is designed to reinforce sobriety by supporting the recovering addict/alcoholic in his
transition back into society.
- Do you provide job services?
- Yes. We offer employment readiness classes (resume preparation, interview skills, job search
techniques and avenues), in addition to networking with various agencies within our
community to return you to work through appreticeship programs and job referrals.
- Are you a co-ed program?
- No, we are focused on the needs of adult men on their journey to sobriety.
- Can I have visitors? If so, when?
- You are allowed visitors after a brief orientation period (7 days), also known as a black-out
period. Visitors are approved by staff prior to your first allowed visit and are carried out here
at the facility. Visitation is on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Can I attend school while I am in the program?
- Your primary treatment schedule will prevent you from attending school full-time. However, in
some circumstances you may be able to attend classes on certain days or evenings after your
primary treatment is completed and it does not conflict with schedule.
- How long before I can return to work?
- Between day 75 and 90 for primary residential treatment. If eligible for Working Man's
Program, day 30.
- What about passes?
- Subject to staff approval, you will be given day passes for medical, legal, or court. Weekend
passes are considered after 45 days.
- What are the sleeping arrangements?
- We have a main house with two 4-man rooms and a separate unit with four 2-man rooms.
- Can I attend religious services?
- Yes, you will be allowed to attend services, however, you must be accompanied by a peer or
approved family member.
- Will I have access to medical care?
- Yes, you will receive a physical check-up and a TB test within 7 days of your arrival. You will
receive all medical care through Contra Costa County Healthcare Programs and Services. If
you are under the care of a physician you may continue to receive services with your provider.
- What kind of food do you serve?
- We have a well balanced menu designed to provide you with a healthy diet.

WEDNESDAY BREAKFAST
Bacon, eggs, potatoes and biscuits w/gravy and fruit and beverage
WEDNESDAY DINNER
Lasagna or spaghetti with salad, fresh vegetables, garlic bread, beverage
THURSDAY DINNER
Roast (pork or beef) or meatloaf, salad, fresh vegetables, bread, rice or
potato and fruit and beverage
- Who does the cooking?
- Residents are assigned as cooks with supervision of the House Manager.
- Do you offer family counseling?
- Because the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction affects our families and beyond, we
offer educational classes designed to educate and equip the loved ones on the disease
concept, the impact, the solution, their role in the recovery process and the expected changes.
- What kind of groups do you have and how often?
- Our groups include educational group sessions (recovery dynamics) and lectures, process
groups, individual groups, peer led groups, etc. Groups are held in the mornings, afternoons and evenings.
- What time do I have to wake up and go to sleep?
- Wake up time is at 7:00 am and lights out are at 10:00pm during the week and11:00 pm during the weekend.
- Can I have a cell phone?
- During your primary treatment phase you will not be allowed to have a cell phone. When you
return to work you will be permitted to have your cell phone, however, you will have to turn it
in to staff each evening.
